seattle field trip

i was happy to feel the rain on my face on saturday. waiting for the bus, i found myself at zeitgeist cafe sipping an americano, enjoying a toasted blueberry bagel and making notes for the week. the rain started at about 11am and didn't stop all day. in fact it is still raining. seattle is a fascinating city. full of past present and future. only the future feels much less certain than what i consider to be comfortable. its people seem real but divided. thursday's and friday's weather was perfect. blue bird skies, warm sun and crisp fresh pacific ocean air. god only knows where it has been lately besides everywhere. up above, in the night skies, was a very full luminous moon.

the new olympic sculpture park (OSP) was curious and delightful. i only wish that i would have found a map. the highlights were the Mark Dion's Neukom Vivarium, Richard Serra's Wake, and the landscaping. creole for dinner in pioneer square, accompanied by delicious oregon wine and lots of laughter. lucky for us, every First Thursday of the month, the city's art galleries open their doors, arms, and wallets even further to the public. seattle is not lacking lot.

early start the next day, friday. we visited a couple of very cross / inter / trans / disciplinary design firms. we saw work from the professional practicing american world. first was museum and exhibition design (Lehrman Cameron Studio) in fremont followed by integrative architecture (Mithun) back downtown at pier 53. an incredible office with a most spectacular view. i think there is something to be said about just showing up. say, can you show me where i'll be sitting?

could i see myself living working (and sailing) in seattle? sure.
